Mallory Wetherell
Mallory’s work is autobiographical, exposing aspects of personal relationships that are not readily apparent. Each piece is a visual depiction of an internalized relationship with herself or others. She uses emotional associations linked to various anatomies of the human body the gut as a metaphor for emotion, and primarily her work has been sculptural, however she shifted focus to functional items after the pandemic. Traditionally pottery had served as small canvases to practice imagery and work through ideas for potentially larger works of art. And with this functional line of work, her art also became more widely accessible.
Mallory Wetherell was born in South Carolina is a Professor of Artat the University of Nebraska, Kearney. She received her BFA in ceramics from the University of South Carolina in 2006 and her MFA in ceramics from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 2010. She has taught ceramic courses at Tyler School of Art and was a Gallery Coordinator of The Clay Studio. She was a resident at the Archie Bray and Indiana University Southeast. Mallory was also a resident at Mud Mesa Studio in Taos, NM. Some of her collaborations including artists Richard Notkin, Rebecca Hutchinson, and Matt Ziemke.
