Current Summer Resident Artist
Hometown: Brooklyn, New York
Drawing source material from fashion, sports and travel magazines, Leah Tacha begins all of her ceramic and print works as drawings and collages in her sketchbooks. Abstracting the imagery she collects from these sources, she then “prints” onto sculptural clay forms of varying sizes. Relying on the viewer’s anticipation of tension and gravity, she sculpts her forms with a sense that they are in mid-motion or might shift position by chance.
Leah earned her MFA from State University of New York at Purchase in 2009 and her BFA in painting from The Cleveland Institute of Art in 2007. She received the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop SIP Fellowship in 2015. Leah currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, and she joins the Bray as a 2017 Windgate Scholar.
